Alicia Vikander, the Lead Actress in ‘Tomb Raider’, Criticizes the Film for Lacking Women

The New Tomb Raider Film Needed More Women, Says the Actress

The new Tomb Raider movie, set to open in theaters next week on March 16th, has been anticipated by series fans for quite some time now. While there were previous Tomb Raider films (that had actress Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft), fans have been waiting for a film that is based on the new reboot Tomb Raider games.

While this upcoming Tomb raider movie has alot of those fans excited, it still has a problem when it comes to the amount of female characters in the movie, says the lead actress, Alicia Vikander, who plays Lara Croft.

When asked by the hosts of a talk show about the lack of female characters in the movie, Vikander admitted that the lack of women in the film was a flaw. “I got to work with Kristin Scott Thomas and she is an extraordinary actress, but me too, I agree,” Vikander said. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Ana Miller, an associate of Lara’s father, in the movie.

“I was on the island and I was thinking, ‘there are not enough women’,” Vikander said jokingly. “I was running around looking for them!”

The upcoming Tomb Raider movie focuses on a young Lara Croft who travels to a mysterious island off the coast of Japan in order to find a fabled tomb that her father (who is presumed dead) had been searching for before he died. The island is treacherous and overrun with a cult group called “Trinity”. They’re lead by Mathias Vogel (played by Walter Goggins) who is also looking for the tomb that Lara is searching for on the island.

So Tomb Raider fans, do you agree with Vikander’s critique or do you think she’s in the wrong? Let us know in the comments section!
