Now With 100% More Luigi!
The promised free update for Super Mario Odyssey has started rolling out which means you can start playing the new Luigi’s Balloon World mini-game straight away.
The update, which was announced last month during a Nintendo Direct Mini, adds a new mini-game called Luigi’s Balloon World. It unlocks only after (SPOILER) Princess Peach has been saved and can be played by talking to Luigi, who now appears in each of the game’s kingdoms. The bonus game involves hiding or finding balloons that have been hidden by real players in each world in 30 seconds. Successfully locating balloons will earn a coin prize which varies depending on its difficulty. Earning high scores for finding and hiding balloons will also allow players to rank up.
Alongside Luigi’s Balloon World are three new outfits for Mario that are available to buy in the in-game shops. There’s the Musician Hat & Outfit, Sunshine Shades & Outfit, and the Knight Helmet & Armor. There are also new Coin and Neon filters for fans of the game’s Snapshot Mode, aka Photo Mode.

Before the update had gone live, it seems that Nintendo of Australia had slipped up, accidentally revealing that its release date of February 23rd on their website. It was quickly taken down, however, but not before fans were able to snap images and share them across social media.
The update should download automatically, but you can always force the update by selecting the Super Mario Odyssey icon, pressing +, and choosing Software Update.
