PERSONA5 the Animation Is Set for an April 2018 Release
Aniplex of America officially owns PERSONA5 the Animation, which adapts the very well-recieved ATLUS game Persona 5. Along with the news, they have released an English subtitled trailer of the series.
The series follows the anime OVA PERSONA5: the Animation – THE DAYBREAKERS-, which was released at the same time as the Persona 5 game. It will reunite many people that were involved in the game, including sound composer Shoji Meguro, original concept creator Katsura Hashino, and artist Shigenori Soejima.
The animation is handled by A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Blue Exorcist) and directed by Masashi Ishihama (ERASE, Your Lie in April).
PERSONA5 the Animation is set in modern Tokyo and follows a group of teenagers called the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. In order to fight for those that have had their hearts corrupted by demons, the team steals the source of the afflicted’s desires.
Here’s the full English synopsis that came with the trailer:
“Ren Amamiya is about to enter his second year after transferring to Shujin Academy in Tokyo. Following a particular incident, his Persona awakens, and together with his friends they form the “Phantom Thieves of Hearts” to reform hearts of corrupt adults by stealing the source of their distorted desires.
“Meanwhile, bizarre and inexplicable crimes have been popping up one after another…Living an ordinary high school life in Tokyo during the day, the group maneuvers the metropolitan city as Phantom Thieves after hours. Let the curtain rise for this grand, picaresque story!”
Persona 5 was voted best RPG of all time by Famistu readers. Although its sales did not reflect its critical success, the new series could bring some more attention to the game.
