PS4 Sales Kicking Too Much Butt To Release Any Earlier
Everyone’s pretty sure that the PS5 will be released eventually, the only question is when. One analyst from the NPD group is sure we’ll see it in 2020. Why so late? Also, is that late? It actually seems like the perfect time to come out with the successor to the PS4. The reason? The PS4 is just doing so well, there’s “no need” for the PS5 to launch any earlier.
According to the same NPD report, the PS4 is at an estimated 75 million lifetime sales. In fact, it’s possible the system will see a total of 100 million, assuming Sony keeps up their usual sales strategies. Of course, eventually these numbers will dwindle, but there’s no reason to expect such a trend anytime soon.
It’s not as though there’s been any announcements or like, anything concrete to suggest the 2020 release date is correct. Instead, it appears the information relies on pattern recognition. Meaning that previous generations of Sony hardware have had lifetimes of around seven years. Or at least, each system had around seven years before its successor came on the scene and stole the spotlight. What do you think? Are we going to see the PS5 in 2020, or will it be sooner?
