Final Fantasy VII Remake’s Cloud Gets a Makeover
The long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for the PlayStation 4 and Cloud’s design will be different than previous footage. Not only that, director Tetsuya Nomura says the new design is the closest to the original.
This isn’t groundbreaking news that will have any grown men in suits jumping on chairs. But it’s a nice tidbit of information for fans to latch onto.
The new design made its debut at the Final Fantasy “Farewell Stories” exhibition in Tokyo. The ongoing event is a celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary. Fans say four new screenshots from the upcoming remake contradict previous concept art and gameplay footage.
Nomura and lead developer Naoki Hamaguchi publicly commented on the new design. They said, “while Cloud may look this way, he was a dork.” They added that players of the original will “understand what I mean by saying he’s a dorky character.” One fan said that his new design has an “immaturity suitable for his age.”
Other character designs are also evolving
Other character designs are evolving as well. All we have is Twitter reactions to go off of, but it sounds like Biggs, Wege, and Jessie’s designs are now different. They are described as “super handsome,” “refreshingly chubby,” and “cute,” respectively.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake’s release date is still not certain. However, we know that it will comprise of multiple episodes. It is expected to arrive on the PlayStation 4 first, with other platform releases possible in the future.
Recent pictures and footage of the game show off the game’s stellar graphics. In terms of gameplay, it looks like the battle system could be closer in design to the recent chapters of the series. But ultimately, only time will tell.
