Third-Party Games Under Consideration
There’s an overabundance of words questions over the recent change-up to Xbox Game Pass, but here’s the latest. Yes, we know the $9.99 service will expand to include every newly launched Xbox One title; but while the benefit to players is obvious, what about the games and their developers? Xbox Chief Phil Spencer decided to relay some benefits via Twitter.
Spencer elaborated on what this new form of “games as a service” means for single-player games. Thus far, the subscription has given players access to titles they would not have otherwise played; and for him, the latest announcement means new opportunities for the lone adventurer.
I see XGP as both. The value is pretty obvious for some. And the idea of a new model that could open up opportunities for creativity is where I think we’ll end up. Especially for SP games. That’s what the model has done in TV but it’s not an exact analogy.

While Game Pass was built to offer easy access to Microsoft exclusives, the library could expand to include newly-launched third-party titles. According to Spencer, the idea is under consideration. There are new, potential benefits for both sides, especially where obscure titles are concerned.
We have a lot of interest from studios who want to see how our recent announcement plays out. We’ll lead with our 1P but having XGP turn into a model for more studios is our a goal. And @iocat is a travelling machine…

Expect more news on Xbox Game Pass going into 2018. Starting this March, with Sea of Thieves, we’ll witness the beginning of newly launched Microsoft titles on the service. With this latest update from Phil Spencer, perhaps there’s a hint that some Xbox One single-player games are in development. Stay tuned.
