Mario Kart Tour Is Coming Sometime Before March 2019
Nintendo has announced a new Mario Kart game but it’s not coming to the Switch. During their shareholder meeting today, Nintendo announced Mario Kart Tour, their next smartphone game for iOS and Android.
It was also announced on Twitter: “The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! #MarioKartTour Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.”

The next fiscal year for Nintendo means that it will release somewhere between April 1st, 2018 and March 31st, 2019. That’s a pretty huge release window, which means the game must be fairly early in development.
Mario Kart Tour will be Nintendo’s fifth mobile game. Miitomo was the first one released back in March 2016. It was recently announced that Nintendo will be shutting Miitomo down in May of this year due to low player engagement. Their other mobile games — Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp — have been significantly more popular.
There are no details about what the new game will offer, so let the speculation begin. Will the game look like Mario Kart 8 but played in portrait mode? Will it use touchscreen controls or your phone’s motion sensor for driving? Will there be microtransactions for new karts, characters, and costumes?
