Just a Regular Canadian Winter, Really
The Darwin Project open beta is happening right now! That means you could be using crude weapons to murder strangers in front of an eager audience this very moment, all set against the backdrop of a regular winter in northern Canada. But sure, let’s call it an ice age.
Unlike other battle royale games, there’s a strong element of audience participation at work here. One feature still in its early phases is Live Spectator Interactions. The audience, watching through Mixer, casts votes on their favorite (or least favorite) participants. In turn, the Show Director can choose the right targets for their powers. Whoever ends up playing the Show Director is granted the power to take in the whole map and choose players to help or hinder. For example, maybe someone needs a little more attention from everyone else. That person is suddenly visible on the minimap. Neat!
The open beta is running from now until Sunday, January 21st at 9 pm PST. That leaves you the rest of the weekend to dive in and test your mettle against a handful of other brave souls in a savage winter wasteland. It’s sort of like northern Ontario with more tree-top structures and torchlight. Good luck and have fun! Maybe you’ll even get the chance to play as Show Director and run some puppet strings over a whole mess of humans!
