Okay, This HAS to be Borderlands 3, Right?
Aside from having another successful quarter bolstered by the unstoppable sales train that is GTA V, the 2017 Take-Two earnings report mentions the launch of a “new entry in one of 2K’s major franchises” in its next fiscal year.
“Looking ahead, we expect fiscal 2019 to be a record year for Net Bookings and net cash provided by operating activities led by the upcoming launches of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 and a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a statement in the earnings report when discussing the company’s future.
The fiscal year Zelnick talks about falls between April 1st, 2018 and March 31st, 2019. While speculation is surely running rampant online, we’re pretty positive that this new entry has to be Borderlands 3. During PAX West, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that 90 % of the team is already hard at work on Borderlands 3. Also, the release window doesn’t seem all that unreasonable when you think about.
Another possibility (but less likely) would be a new BioShock game which happens to be celebrating the first game’s 10th anniversary this year. While a new BioShock would definitely be exciting, we just don’t see it coming out before Borderlands 3. Either way, it’s fun to speculate. If it is Borderlands 3 then Take-Two is sure to have a home run year when you factor in Red Dead Redemption 2.
