New Changes for PlayStation App Now Available on iOS and Android Smartphones
The PlayStation 4 smartphone app just got a whole lot better thanks to a new design that makes basic navigation easier while also highlighting key features that players use often.
The update, available in the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store, brings some nifty, quality-of-life improvements to the app such as adding new tabs to the bottom of the screen to access the Whatโs New, Friends, and your Profile sections. Sony claims itโs now โeasier and faster to switch between viewing whoโs online, what they are playing, and keeping up with the latest activities and posts from your friends and the PlayStation community.โ
The PS App has been widely criticized, especially when compared with Microsoftโs Xbox app. This new update makes browsing the store, redeeming codes, accessing events, checking trophies, and viewing PS Plus content ten times easier and more streamlined. Thereโs also a new upcoming PS4 games section that can be accessed by pressing the big PS button at the bottom. Handy stuff!
Gone from the app is the Live from PlayStation feature which allowed for spectating various game broadcasts. Sony has also removed the Second Screen functionality because itโs now being treated as a separate standalone application. Sony says this was done because users can now easily switch between its features and the PS App.
The update is free to download on iOS devices running iOS 9.0 or later and on Android devices on 4.1 or later. After checking out the new app, let us know what you think in the comments below.
