Looks Like Rocket League Will Only Get Bigger
One of the biggest game publishers has partnered with one of the most popular developers: Warner Bros and Psyonix are teaming up for the retail distribution of Rocket League. What does that mean? It means we’re getting another version of the game.
While Rocket League is available for PC PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, the new partnership will lead to a retail re-release. Dare I say, definitive version? Ever since launch, the game has witnessed a plethora of content updates and changes. For example, the Switch version got Super Mario skins. And over time, the IP has only gotten more popular. Thus, it seems the goal between Warner Bros and Psyonix is to deliver a copy that gives players everything they could want for their money. That’s my guess.
Furthermore, as revealed in a press release, part of Warner Bros’ goal is to distribute the game to a broader market.
“Rocket League has such wide appeal across all audiences, it’s no wonder the game is such a huge success,” said Kevin Kebodeaux, Senior Vice President, Sales, Americas, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. “We’re very excited to be working with Psyonix to bring the game to retailers across the globe.”
“Warner Bros has already proven to be a great partner,” said Jeremy Dunham, Vice President, Publishing at Psyonix. “We first collaborated on Batman v Superman DLC for Rocket League in early 2016 and we have continued to be impressed with the team’s knowledge, professionalism, reach and enthusiasm for video games. They are the ideal partner to help us push Rocket League to another level at retail.”
With over 150 awards, Rocket League should have no problem appealing to a broader audience. As of yet, no concrete details have been revealed about redistribution, but we’ll keep in touch. Simply check back for the updates as they arrive.
