Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux Gets Upstaged by a Fake Game
In 2017, one of the best gaming years ever, it’s pretty wild that a trailer for Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is one of the most hype trailers this year. The new trailer for the upcoming 3DS port actually shows off a fake Metroidvania game starring Jack Frost and Jack O’Lantern that I never knew I needed in my life.
The art for this joke looks fantastic as I’m getting some serious Cave Story vibes.
According to Gemtasu, the footage ends with a big red stamp stating it’s fake. See the trailer below for a taste of cruel awesomeness.
Earlier this year, Square Enix dropped an amazing fake game trailer called Tactics Alexander which uses the GBA FFT sprites with FFXIV content. At least with that one, it was April Fools so it didn’t feel so cruel. While it’s not April Fools today, it is Friday the 13th so perhaps Atlus was feeling extra naughty. That said, it does seem like a lot of work for a joke so I’m still hoping we’ll be able to play this fake game one day.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux releases for 3DS in early 2018 in North America and Europe.
