Cuphead Soars Past 185,000 Copies Sold on Steam Already
The highly anticipated indie platformer Cuphead was released on Friday, September 29th, and has already been completed in less than an hour by a speedrunner! In addition to that crazy news, just four days following its release, Steamspy has reported that the game has sold 189,026 copies on Steam alone.
Now, if you’ve been following everything since the announcement of Cuphead you know that this run and gun platformer is more challenging than its competitors, a gamble that seems to be paying off right from the start for developers Studio MDHR. In addition to Steamspy’s report on the amount of copies purchased on Steam, Valve noted that the game was one of the best-selling titles on the service last week. As of right now it is still unknown how many more copies were sold on the Xbox One, or via Windows 10, but hopefully we’ll get the final numbers at the end of the month.
Of course, while Cuphead is extremely difficult, it features a unique art style reminiscent of cartoons from the 1930s. If you’re looking for more information you can check out our preview, as well as the synopsis from the official website below.
“Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!”
