Biomutant Developer Says It Will Be Similar to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Biomutant made a big splash when it was revealed earlier this year at Gamescom. Now, just a few months later, one of the game developers working at Experiment 101 has revealed a few details about what fans can hope to expect from the open-world RPG title.
In a recent Twitch stream, Stefan Ljunqvist, a game developer at Experiment 101 compared the open-world dynamics of Biomutant to that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While that is definitely a tall order, he stated that Biomutant will feature an open-world, more similar to Zelda than a linear open-world title like Horizon Zero Dawn. While it’s difficult to know for sure, it sounds like the upcoming title will allow players to progress throughout the game with a bit more freedom. If that’s the case it will give players various ways of interacting and engaging with the rest of the game.
If you’re looking for an example of what to expect, Ljunqvist gave an example of how players might determine their own path in the game. The main objective of the game is to cure the Tree of Life located in the middle of the open world. Now, this can be done in different ways. The first way is by defeating five bosses that guard the roots of the tree, and the second way is by healing collecting 100 potatoes per root in order to heal them. This means that players will have the autonomy to choose between the options within the game, adjusting for personal preferences.
Ljunqvist says that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t the only place the team at Experiment 101 has taken inspiration from. Taking cues from Kung Fu Panda for the characters, and Devil May Cry for a combat system, Biomutant sounds like it will be fairly versatile. Biomutant is set to release in 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. If you want to see what we had to say when we went hands on with the title, check out our preview here.
