Project Is Clearly Related to the NieR Franchise
One of the biggest surprises of the year and one of the best games developed by Platinum Games, NieR Automata, could have a sequel in the works. A new post by Square Enix says that the company is hiring devs to work on projects related to the IP.
A rough translation of the job description comes as follows, delivered via Beyond-Gaming:
Job Description | 【Business Contents】 Scenario production and planning work of Nier related products«Specific work» Based on the view of the world of the Near series, you will be responsible for the following.· Creation of plots of subquest etc and creation of scenario · Design designation used in the game, such as NPC design specification · General description of text displayed in the game such as item description |
---|
Apparently, the post also jokes about director Yoko Taro’s laziness and the company’s need for talent because of that. If this implies that Yoko Taro is returning to helm the sequel, sign me up! Of course, it could mean the opposite. Translations are tricky; therefore, you can take the post with a grain of salt.
NieR Automata is considered the game that saved Platinum Games, and Taro is regarded as the savior. According to Square Enix, the game performed better than expectations, which would definitely support the idea that they’re making a sequel. Alternatively, there could be another DLC in the works. But, there’s no reason to believe both aren’t possible, especially if Square Enix is looking to build the team.
NieR Automata is available for PS4 and PC via Steam. Look forward to possible updates on the IP and the studio as they come our way.
Happy gaming.
