Classic NES Golf Updated with Motion Control Support Discovered in the Switch

Every Switch Comes with NES Emulator Too

Nintendo Switch modders have discovered that the 1984 NES title, NES Golf, in the system’s firmware in a file named “flog” which is golf spelt backwards. Besides that, a preinstalled NES emulator was found as well as reported by Eurogamer via Switchbrew. While the game is playable through hacking, there’s no way yet to get the title to play through more conventional means.

According to Switchbrew, the Switch version of NES Golf comes with motion control and joy-con support, “Controls are “d-pad” buttons + stick, however motion control while holding the Z{L/R} button is also supported instead of using buttons.” While it’s unclear why Nintendo went with NES Golf here, the classic title does offer the capabilities to test the modern upgrades that Nintendo promised would happen to the NES games coming to its upcoming paid online service.

Currently, Nintendo is letting players use some of its online services for free while it looks like it’ll be keeping the classic games part of the official launch next year.
