Marvel vs Capcom Infinite to be “Fully Featured” on Day One
It seems that Capcom is learning from its mistakes when it comes to the launches of their major titles. Following the piecemeal release of Street Fighter V‘s various features and modes, the gaming giant is trying a different approach for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
Whereas Street Fighter 5 launched without arcade mode, Infinite will be more of a “fully featured” launch. Mike Evans, the game’s producer, recognized that gamers want certain things at launch more than others. While this means features like cross-platform play will be put on the back burner, it will be worth it to have a more complete experience from the beginning. Rather than rush to meet a certain deadline, Evans specified that “we’re going to release it when it’s ready.”
Indeed, cross-platform play is something that can wait, if it arrives for the title at all. Fans of Capcom’s fighting franchises have been burned badly enough by their experiences with Street Fighter V that any troubles with Infinite will be closely scrutinized. It’s in Capcom’s best interest that they take their time and make sure the upcoming fighter is fully cooked before it hits the shelves. No word on whether this design philosophy will have any measurable impact on Infinite’s September release date.
