“The final master version [of Ys VIII for PS4] has arrived! We just started playing it. Everyone, please rest assured. With this, there is almost no possibility that the release date will be delayed. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (PS4 version) will launch on May 25, 2017 (Thursday).”

The eight game once again follows Adol Christin, the series’ red-haired swordsman, who awakes on a deserted island called Seiren Island. Adol shares the game’s cover art with another important character by the name of Dana, a girl who mysteriously shows up in Adol’s dreams. The new character will have her own gameplay section too in the PS 4 version of the game. Here, she’ll be able to switch between three different battle styles—Iclucian, Gratica, and Luminous.

Besides that, the game builds on some mechanics from previous titles as this one will let players take control of two other party members while raiding dungeons. Another core change is that the game lets you have full access to your inventory during boss battles; a series first as it was traditionally restrictive with letting you access healing during boss fights.

For its Japanese release, Famitsu gave the latest game a 34/40. They praised the game for its story, preferring it over its predecessors, and liked the pace of battle as well

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is slated for release for the PS 4 in Japan on May 25, while North America and Europe will get to have the game this fall.
