Ed, Balrog’s Psycho-Powered Teenage Protégé, Joins Street Fighter V
The description of Street Fighter V‘s Season 2 Character Pass revealed Ed as the next Season 2 character for the fifth installment in the iconic fighting series. The two other Season 2 characters that preceded him were air-fireballer, Akuma and newcomer, Kolin. That said, there are three more unrevealed combatants to join them. Of course, these characters can be unlocked without spending a dime using the in-game currency’s Fight Money. Or, you can download them with the Season 2 Character Pass as well.
So who’s Ed? Well, the official character encyclopedia says. “Ed is one of many spare bodies created as a possible vessel for M. Bison, before being stolen by Seth and placed within S.I.N.’s laboratory. He has the mark of Shadaloo on his hand and is able to use a small amount of Psycho Power.” Many are also calling him the Slim Shady of Street Fighter too.
Players first see a glimpse of him as a young boy with a heavily-bandaged head in Rose’s ending in Street Fighter IV. It’s only in Super Street Fighter IV where we first hear him talk. Here, Balrog, a character who took more than 10 years to finally use his foot in an attack, belittles Ed for not being able to fly or see the future. Anyways, Ed’s unable to do any of that, but Balrog takes him in too. The character returns again Street Fighter V as a teenager. Growing up under Balrog’s tutelage, he seems to have picked up some of the boxer’s fists-for-hire attitude too.
As for his fighting style? That’s still to be revealed. Though, the story segments in Street Fighter V shows him using that patented psycho power to levitate a hat and burn it into a purple crisp. So either he’s the bane of any hat-wearing fighter or he’s probably fighter with a more projectile-based moveset. Hopefully, he picks up some of Balrog’s boxing too.
Typically, there’s more fanfare from Capcom for such Street Fighter V character reveals so we’ll likely see a more official announcement for the new character soon.
