New Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment Release Dates
Non-Switch fans can rejoice as Yacht Club Games announced on Twitter today that Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be released for PS 4, PS Vita, and PS 3 in North America on April 25th. As reported yesterday, the latest expansion to Shovel Knight has a staggered release date with several release dates still pending for other systems. It also saw an earlier release last month on the Switch which many gaming outlets highly praised.
The Specter of Torment expansion will be available as a standalone title on the PS4 on the same date or a free update if you already own the base game. On its own, it’ll be $9.99. It’ll also be included in the upcoming Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove which collects all the expansions in one place.
If you’re unfamiliar with this expansion, players will play as Specter Knight in a prequel set before the original Shovel Knight. Specter Knight has his own unique control scheme that lets him slash through the air with his scythe which should make for some intense mid-air platforming and fighting. Players will have to harness those skills on a quest to recruit the original bosses from the first game to serve under the Enchantress.
As for Sony fans of the series, they’ll enjoy cross-save between all three platforms mentioned above. Besides that, players will be once again face Kratos here too. Though, Sony players may be a bit jelly that Xbox players will be able to fight a Battletoad which is pretty fitting considering the game’s homage to 2D platformers of the NES-era.
What’s next for fans of the series? Well, they can look forward to playing as the glorious King Knight in another expansion that’s slated for a late 2017 release. But, for now, non-Switch players will finally be able to join on the Specter Knight fun as the expansion makes its rounds to other platforms.
