Nintendo CEO Talks up Further Boosts to the Switch’s Already Robust Sales
The Nintendo Switch has been doing pretty good since it launched in March. The latest sales figures put the system at around 2.74 million units sold up to this point. This is a good start, and according to the current Nintendo CEO, they’ve got plans to ensure the system does even better throughout the year.
Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki took to Twitter today, revealing a tiny bit of these plans Nintendo has for the coming year. According to Mochizuki, Tatsumi Kimishima (the aforementioned CEO) repeatedly mentioned “more unannounced titles” for the Nintendo Switch. These mystery titles are part of Nintendo’s plan to continue boosting sales for the coming fiscal year. Unfortunately, there was no word on whether or not these would be first-party titles. That information will likely drop at this year’s E3.
Nintendo has had a strong showing in Breath of the Wild, but their other releases thus far haven’t made as heavy an impact. With Mario Odyssey AWOL until the holidays, it’s up to Splatoon 2, ARMS and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to keep this party going. If Nintendo has any aces up their sleeves, E3 would be a great time to let them loose. Even one additional first-party announcement for this year would be a boon to their overall sales. We’ll have our ears to the ground for any rumblings of the sort here at COGconnected.
