2017 Is Turning out to Be a Big Year for Spiderman Fans
Many fans have been excited and curious since the reveal of Spiderman at last year’s E3. We know it will arrive on the PlayStation 4, but we were never given a true release date. Well, according to Ryan Penagos, Vice President of Marvel’s Digital Media Group, Spiderman (the game) is coming this year.
This announcement for Spiderman PS4 came from a recent livestream. And alongside this info, we learned that the next Marvel vs Capcom shall also launch this year across all major platforms. That being said, 2017 is turning into a big year for Marvel; the same can be said of Sony since their collaboration is leading to Spiderman: Homecoming being released in July. E3 precipitates the movie release by one month. Therefore, we can expect a more concrete release date for the game by then. From there, we may learn that PS4’s Spiderman shall release in tandem with the movie; if not the theatrical release, then the Blu-ray.
Thus far, we know this Spiderman will be an open-world game and that Insomniac hopes to build a more insightful story. Here’s what Marvel Entertainment Creative Director Bill Rosemann had to say about the game’s direction:
“Extensive thought was applied from the top of his mask to the bottom of his feet. We know how much people love Spider-Man and his costume. In my opinion, it’s the best-designed super hero costume of all-time. If you’re going to alter it, you have to understand what the original design achieved and be very thoughtful and have a reason for everything. Another thing I want to say is that Insomniac and Marvel are known as great storytellers, and there is story behind everything in the game, and as the months go on, we will dig into all of that.”
