Mind-Bending Begins Now in ECHOPLEX
The greatest enemy you can face is yourself. Like the penultimate boss in every CAPCOM game, you must defeat a nega-clone that has all your gadgets, skills, and abilities. But what if the nega-you made the exact same moves you did? ECHOPLEX from Output Games delivers just that – a clone you that follows you around and copies your every move.
Playing like Portal with the minimalist aesthetic of Mirror’s Edge, this cyber-horror puzzle game will have you pulling your hair out and the only person you can blame is yourself. ECHOPLEX is set in the near-future where you are presented with a series of puzzles and your “Echo” – a being who follows you around and repeats everything you do – is trying to stop you from solving them.
Sometimes the Echo can be used to your advantage, delaying your movements so the Echo sits there like an idiot for five seconds and then activates a switch that unlocks the door you’re right by. Suck it, Echo!  You are bound to my will! This creates two layers of puzzles: solving the physical environment challenge, and remembering exactly what you just did in order to outsmart the Echo that follows close behind. Other times, you forget what you just did and get an around-the-corner scare from none other than yourself, you dingus.
Teased in the Steam description is a narrative arc of the player unlocking memory fragments to discover who they truly are, giving a face to the faceless and distinguishing the player as an individual among these godless Echoes. But then, if the Echo does everything the player does, are they the same person? Am I me? Â Existential crisis? Yes.
ECHOPLEX is on Steam right now for $8.99, which saves you 10% off the full price of the game. Careful though, this special promotion ends on April 13th – and unlike the game, this offer won’t repeat. Â Get it here.
