Atlus Threatening Persona 5 Streamers Who Broadcast Too Far in the Game and Spoil the Storyline
You might have noticed that Persona 5 can’t be directly broadcasted through the native PlayStation 4 UI. It’s totally blocked. Well, this is because Atlus doesn’t want anyone posting anything that’s too plot-heavy and potentially spoiling the storyline. Atlus USA posted a note to their website concerning the issue, and it was directed straight towards streamers. Since people seem to want to work around the Native PlayStation 4 UI and stream the game anyway, this ended with Atlus threatening Persona 5 streamers openly with content ID claims or a channel strike/account suspension, but only if they decide to stream past a certain point.
Anyone streaming Persona 5 past the in-game date of 7/7 will be posting spoiler-heavy content and, since the JRPG has a single-playthrough story, Atlus has a huge problem with this. You can read the entire note on their site, but this is highlight pretty much wraps up what not to do, other than post blatant spoilers:
“This being a Japanese title with a single-playthrough story means our masters in Japan are very wary about it. Sharing is currently blocked through the native PS4 UI. However, if you do plan on streaming, video guidelines above apply except length. If you decide to stream past 7/7 (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT DOING THIS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED), you do so at the risk of being issued a content ID claim or worse, a channel strike/account suspension.”
At least they want to meet players halfway? Apparently, the in-game school year gets pretty heavy around July 7th (which seems like a content spoiler in itself), but if players are watching the stream, they should already be well aware that they’re about to completely wreck the game for themselves. With that in mind, this threat is most likely less about spoiling the game for people, and more about pushing gamers to buy the game themselves if they want to find out what happens.
