3 New Maps Might Be Coming to Overwatch This Year
Since it’s release last year, Overwatch has become a massively popular MOBA on all platforms, and has featured some pretty big events, however the game has only seen two new standard maps added. Earlier today Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan addressed whether more maps will be added to the game over the remainder of the year, and it seems like we could be getting 3 new maps!
Jeff Kaplan recently responded to a forum thread where gamers were talking about the frequency of new map releases to the game. He revealed that there are three new standard maps currently in development and are “past the initial playtesting phase.” Barring any complications to these maps, he also stated, “All three of those are looking likely for a release this year.”Â
Kaplan mentioned that three new non-standard maps are in development as well, although he didn’t comment on whether or not we’ll see them sometime in 2017. These three non-standard maps are likely for Arcade modes, much like Ecopoint Antarctica, as they aren’t intended for Quick or Competitive play. Of course, in usual nondescript fashion, he stated that the Overwatch team have “a few other experiments going on.” Finally, Jeff Kaplan concluded saying, “We want to play on these maps as badly as you guys do. We’ll work as fast as we can!”
Currently, Overwatch is in the middle of the latest seasonal event, called Uprising, which ends on May 1st! Along with over 100 new skins, there is a new PVE game mode that where Tracer and her fellow Overwatch heroes battle Omnic Null Sector waves in a modified version of King’s Row.
