Nintendo Switch Cartridges Taste Super Gross

Switch Cartridges Coated to Prevent Being Ingested

Nintendo has taken measures to ensure that their Switch cartridges aren’t accidentally swallowed, according to a report from Wccftech.

The cartridges are coated in a bittering agent known as Denatonium Benzoate. The chemical is reportedly “1000 times more bitter than quinine,” all in an effort to prevent the games from being eaten. The intended effect seems aimed at curious children, although the early reports of the carts’ disgusting flavour have come from reviewers and other adults. The chemical in question is non-toxic, which is cold comfort to the regretful fools who have already licked their copies of Breath of the Wild.

A member of the Polygon team claimed the taste was so bad that “your entire face feels it.” Mike Fahey from Kotaku called it the “worst thing you can do to your tongue.” The takeaway here is that absolutely no one should try this at home. Of course, this advice will be soundly ignored by everyone on earth. Look forward to the wave of online reactions from fans and foolish gamers somehow eager to test this awful bit of product safety engineering.
