The Sleeping Dogs Movie May Have Founds Its Lead Character in Donnie Yen
As reported by Deadline, another video game movie is in development and it will star one of this generation’s greatest martial arts actors. Donnie Yen will star in the movie based on the hit game by Square Enix and United Front Games:Â Sleeping Dogs.
An action RPG that takes its cues from the cop genre of storytelling, Sleeping Dogs follows undercover police officer Wei Shen. While sources haven’t announced Donnie Yen’s exact role, we know protagonist character Wei Shen is a Hong Kong-American cop whose purpose is quelling a criminal underworld from the inside. Additionally, we know Original Film is producing and their involvement in the Fast and Furious franchise may sketch the action sequences of this new Sleeping Dogs Movie.
Since Donnie Yen is well-versed in action roles, famous for leading the Ip Man movies and noted for his portrayal in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we suspect an action-packed thriller. Hopefully, the film will utilize Yen better than the Triple X movie and, hopefully, it will remain true to the game’s spirit without sacrificing quality.
Sleeping Dogs released during the last generation of video game consoles, for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Although the development studio, United Front Games, has since shut down, its legacy lives on as is evident in this latest movie news. Currently, gamers can find a “Definitive Edition” of Sleeping Dogs for PS4, Xbox One, and PC; it features much more content than its original release and updated visuals.
