RPG NieR: Automata Gets a New Extended Gameplay Video

New Lengthy Gameplay Video for NieR: Automata Showcases Some Neat Twists on RPG Conventions

Just one more week to go until NieR: Automata releases for PlayStation 4! The demo is available now for anyone on PS4 and the full game will become available on March 7th, with a PC release soon to follow. As a bit of a pre-game to the NieR party,  SQUARE ENIX and PlatinumGames Inc have released a crazy long video that showcases many of the RPG elements in the upcoming game.

The video, released today, is almost 30 minutes long and features constant, uninterrupted game-play. It’s a lot like watching someone stream the game on Twitch but without all the commentary. If you’re interested and have half an hour, check out the video below – it really is beautiful:

Some highlights from the video include:

  • The “Reliquary” System: Which allows players to travel back to the spot where they were last killed to pick up their old body (Dark Souls style) and nab power-ups or even find a temporary combat ally in your old frame.
  • 17 Unique Pod Skills: Anyone who has played Phantasy Star Online knows how useful your hovering robotic companions can be in a scrape… well, in NieR, your little companions called “Pods” will be your combat friends and allow you to do things like hover or leap long distances, allowing you access otherwise unreachable areas. When it comes to combat skills, Pods “can be programmed with a variety of offensive and defense skills, including lasers, hammers, and more. By using up to three Pods at the same time, players can also charge their skills to make them up to three times stronger.”
  • “Plug-in-Chips”: microchips that you can install into your android body to gain a huge variety of skills and offensive capabilities.
  • Mount System: Forget horses! players in NieR can ride around on a variety of wildlife, including giant boars… which can also help you to crush your enemies!
  • Questing: The good old main quest awaits players of NieR as well as a healthy host of additional side quests to offer diversion and reward.
  • Fishing: While many RPG games let you go fishing, in NieR: Automata, fish can be traded for beneficial status effects.
