Superdata Puts the Switch at 1.5 Million Sold So Far
Well, it’s been eleven days since the Nintendo Switch was launched around the world. How’s it doing so far? According to Nintendo, it’s one of their fastest-selling consoles. According to Superdata, this so far translates to 1.5 million units sold since launch.
To break that down a tiny bit, that’s 500,000 in North America alone. 360,000 of them were moved in Japan, 85,000 in the UK and 110,000 in France. Nintendo is hoping to sell 2 million units by the end of March. For Nintendo’s records, units sold to the retailer count among their figures, whereas Superdata goes by “sell-through” numbers. By these metrics, Nintendo might already be at their projected sales goals for the Switch.
Superdata also noted that 89% of those systems were purchased along with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This isn’t a huge surprise by any means, given the hype surrounding the game up until launch. One wonders what Nintendo’s sales figures would have looked like in this first week without Zelda around to prop them up. Better yet, what would these numbers have been like if Nintendo had gone with their usual strategy and released a Mario game with their new system? Perhaps the numbers would have been higher, but Nintendo did allude to this being their fastest selling system yet. Maybe the Japanese gaming giant needs a new mascot?
