Konami Explains the Meaning Behind the Title of Their Upcoming Bomberman Game
Konami is part of the Switch’s launch lineup with Super Bomberman R. Recently, a Reddit user inquired as to what the ‘R’ could possibly mean. A rep from Konami was kind enough to give a response.
For the developers, the ‘R’ is a reference to the old days of game creation, when just adding a letter to a title could “allow that letter to carry many meanings.” The rep further clarified that the ‘R’ “symbolized Returns & Reborn,” as the game is a love letter to the Bomberman titles from the SNES. However, the letter can also refer to “Rangers, to represent the diverse and colorful group of Bomberman characters who patrol the galaxy.”
There you have it. Much like the R-Types and Super C’s of days past, the R is a throwback gesture. A way for the developers to connect with the games that made them famous. Although, one could also make a case for the ‘Super’ in the title achieving a similar effect.
Are you excited for this newest Bomberman game? Will you be getting it once the Switch comes out? Either way, we’ll keep you up to date on all the bomb-centric news coming down the pipe.
