Nintendo Switch Super Bowl Ad Has an Amazing Secret Zelda Easter Egg

Switch Super Bowl Commercial Has Cool Zelda Easter Egg

A few days ago we shared with you our top 10 Nintendo Switch launch games. As you can see, there are some decent games on the list. Yesterday, we all had a chance to witness the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all time when down 25 points in the third quarter, Tom Brady rallied the Patriots to beat the Falcons in OT. During the game we also had a chance to see that slick Nintendo Switch / The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild commercial. The ad really highlighted all the cool things we can expect from the console when it drops next month. When you watched the trailer, did you notice the neat Legend of Zelda Easter egg?

The Easter egg appears within the first five seconds of the commercial. Check it out and look very carefully to see if you can spot it:

Did you see it? It happens really quick. If you pause the video at the four second mark, you can see someone reach out to grab his Nintendo Switch. You’ll also notice a book with the title “It’s Dangerous to Go Alone.”

For those of you who don’t know, this is a nod to the very first Legend of Zelda on NES. In the original game a mysterious old man in a cave cries, “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this,” before giving Link his sword to aid him on his quest to rescue Princess Zelda. Lifelong Zelda fans will immediately recognize this and it’s a pretty cool Easter egg.

You’ll also notice at the bottom of the book that the authors name is “Zel Dasb…” It cuts off, but I’m sure you can tell that if you take the first five letters together it spells out “Zelda” and the sb is likely the initials for “Super Bowl”.

How many more Easter eggs like this one are hidden within the Super Bowl commercial? Can you find any? Tell us in the comments below.
