Nintendo Defends the Season Pass for Breath of the Wild

Nintendo Rep Says Season Pass Means More Adventures

As previously reported, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting a season pass. A representative from Nintendo, Bill Trinen, has spoken in defense of the controversial decision.

As reported by WWG, Trinen is a strong supporter of the paid DLC system Nintendo has chosen. According to Trinen, the choice to include it was a tough one, as they “actually had a lot of debate” over how to break the news. For the development team, the decision to create additional DLC came when they were “starting to get to the very end and wrap it up.” Trinen remarked that not doing anything else with “this massive world of Hyrule” they had would be something of a waste.

Trinen elaborated on Nintendo’s strategy by pointing out that the paid DLC is being released “several months later in the form of the first pack and then several months after that in the form of the second pack. And that’s because the content is in development.” This strategy suggests that development focus has been on the main title, with any additional content being perfected once the actual game is on store shelves.

Trinen correctly assumed that Zelda fans purchasing the Switch on day one would be “buying it for Zelda,” meaning these same players will be happy to go back to the game with more content several months down the line. This remains to be seen, of course. Only the actual sales of the season pass will test the truth of Trinen’s words.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is launching with the Nintendo Switch on March 3rd, 2017.
