Kojima Weighs in on Nintendo’s Next Console During Recent Interview
Hideo Kojima, the man behind the Metal Gear Solid series and Death Stranding, gave his thoughts on the Nintendo Switch during a recent interview.
When asked about the Switch, Kojima referred to an old system of his called “Transfarring.” This system let a player “transfer data between a PS Vita game and a PS3 game.” The industry veteran sees the Switch as “an evolution of that idea,” new technology which expands on this concept of exchange between console and portable gaming experiences. For Kojima, this flexibility is “the main attraction” of the Nintendo Switch. He noted that other forms of media are already moving in this direction. Soon enough, games will begin moving in the same direction. Kojima emphasized that this flexibility between the two forms of gaming is “the correct line of thought, and this is where Nintendo’s taking it.”
This analysis should come as no surprise to anyone who follows the Metal Gear creator’s work. Kojima has made a name for himself breaking from tradition and taking games to new heights. The first Metal Gear Solid featured a boss who could be defeated by plugging the controller into a different slot. The Boktai GBA cartridge had a solar receptor whose charge affected gameplay. It makes perfect sense that he would be on board with a system looking to change the way games are played. Soon enough, we’ll know whether Kojima’s endorsement and analysis is correct. The Nintendo Switch is launching in just under a month. Will it be the naysayers or the hopefuls whose predictions were correct?
