Sony Shutting Down Useless Live Events Viewer App on PS4 and PS3 This Week

Say Goodbye to The Live Events Viewer App

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced to North American PSN users that the Live Events Viewer app on PS4 and PS3 will be discontinued on January 10th. This pay-per-view app from Sony Entertainment Network delivered the “best live events” straight to users who owned a Sony console. This enabled them to watch sports, music, and entertainment events on-demand. This app never really took off for Sony, so it comes are no surprise its getting axed.

Well the app isn’t completely going away. While Sony has decided to discontinue the app for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, but if you own the latter, you don’t really have to worry about losing access.

Sony is going to discontinue the Live Events Viewer app for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in North America on January 10th. This move only really affects those who have the PlayStation 3.

Sony launched its Live Events Viewer app back in 2013 for the PlayStation 3. It released the app for PlayStation 4 about a year later. The reason why the discontinuation only affects PS3 owners is because those who own a PlayStation 4 can still purchase access to live events from the PlayStation Store so they don’t really need the app anyway. They will be able to do so starting January 10th as well.

That’s not going to be the case for the PlayStation 3, though. Owners of that console will not be able to buy access to live events from the PlayStation Store. They’re out of luck and the only option for them is to purchase a PlayStation 4 first.
