Reggie Mentions Smash Bros. in Recent Interview Concerning Latest Nintendo Console
According to a report from TGG, Reggie Fils-Aimé alluded to the Smash series appearing on the Nintendo Switch in the future.
The site referred to Reggie’s interview with Time magazine, wherein he mentioned IPs like “Splatoon and Mario Kart and Smash Bros.” as cornerstones of Nintendo’s future online environment. Smash Bros. also comes up in an interview he conducted with CNET. There, the Nintendo executive used the series as an example of an IP requiring more server space for online multiplayer.
These two mentions are flimsy ground for facts to grow on, but there is hope. Smash Bros. has developed into one of Nintendo’s most celebrated IPs. If nothing else, the company has been diligent about releasing a new entry in the series with every successive home console. Along with Mario Kart and Splatoon, Smash Bros. comprises the lion’s share of Nintendo’s online multiplayer experience. It’s entirely possible that when, rather than if, is the operative term here. While they have yet to make any official announcements, the brawler/party game hybrid is one they would be remiss in leaving out of the Switch’s release schedule. Unlike other oft-forgotten franchises in Nintendo’s roster (sorry Metroid), Smash Bros. has the consumer impact the Switch requires.
The Nintendo Switch launches March 3rd, 2017. Until then, we’ll keep you current with all the Switch news you can handle, including release dates, price points, wild rumours and more.
