New Zelda Breath of the Wild Clip in Holiday Greeting from Nintendo

Nintendo Gives Us a Little Tease of New Zelda Breath of the Wild as a Holiday Gift

Just as it’s starting to get bitterly cold outside, Nintendo warms our hearts by sending Link to give us a holiday, “Hello!” There’s not much to see on the new site they just put up, but we get a nice little teaser showing off the world of the long awaited, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  We have covered Breath of the Wild a bit previously – you can check that out here, and here – but there is still so much mystery surrounding this Zelda game that will supposedly launch in Q2 of 2017.

What we do know, according to the the official page, is that this promises to be the most open world Zelda title to date.  Legend of Zelda games have always been pretty massive adventures, but it looks like Nintendo may be trying to capitalize on the popularity of games like Skyrim.  The official site boasts over, “100 Shrines of Trials to discover and explore… work your way through the traps and devices inside to earn special items and other rewards.”  And goes on to say that equipping the right gear for varying environments and situations will be more important than ever. Now, this may not mean that there are over a hundred dungeon dives with all the complexity of previous Zelda dungeons. We are expecting something more akin to the island hopping in Wind Waker. But there are hints that we will have to deal with new mechanics like bundling up in cold locations, and bringing special items to make it through, say, a desert. Check out Link’s sick snowboard skills as he uses his shield, Legolas style, to descend the slopes.

The nostalgic collage at the beginning of the video recalls Zelda games of the past, and the footage, although short, looks great!  Though The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is rumored to miss the launch date of the Nintendo Switch, it will be available on WiiU in 2017, and you can bet we will be eagerly covering updates on the game until launch!
