The Nominees Are in for the First-Ever Steam Awards, but Half-Life is Still Nowhere to be Found
The official nominees for Valveโs new Steam awards for 2016 have been revealed, with over 15 million nominations received. However, despite a push by fans to nominate Valveโs Half-Life 2 for an award via write-in, the game was notably absent from the final list.
The original award categories supplied by Valve were: the โVillain Most In Need Of A Hugโ award, the โI Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Awardโ award, the โTest of Timeโ award, the โJust 5 More Minutesโ award, the โWhoooaaaaaaa, dude!โ award, the โGame Within A Game Awardโ award, the โIโm Not Crying, Thereโs Something In My Eyeโ award, and the โBest Use Of A Farm Animalโ award.
These eight awards were meant to be accompanied by a ninth category, written-in by the Steam community. Valve ended up choosing four more awards: the โBoom Boomโ award, the โLove/Hate Relationshipโ award, the โSit Back and Relaxโ award, and the โBetter With Friendsโ award.
The games that are up for multiple categories are The Witcher 3, Doom, Terraria, Grand Theft Auto V, and Stardew Valley, but Half-Life was not mentioned at all in any of the categories. This is in spite of the massive push Steam community members had made to nominate Half-Life 2: Episode 2 as the โGame That Deserves a Sequelโ Award. And so ends the latest addition to the โValve continues to ignore everything regarding a Half-Life sequelโ saga.
Players can vote on which nominee should win each award from December 22 to 30, with the winners all announced on December 31.
