Steam Awards Finalists Revealed, No Half-Life but Lots of Witcher, Doom

The Nominees Are in for the First-Ever Steam Awards, but Half-Life is Still Nowhere to be Found

The official nominees for Valve’s new Steam awards for 2016 have been revealed, with over 15 million nominations received. However, despite a push by fans to nominate Valve’s Half-Life 2 for an award via write-in, the game was notably absent from the final list.

The original award categories supplied by Valve were: the “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” award, the “I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award” award, the “Test of Time” award, the “Just 5 More Minutes” award, the “Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!” award, the “Game Within A Game Award” award, the “I’m Not Crying, There’s Something In My Eye” award, and the “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” award.

These eight awards were meant to be accompanied by a ninth category, written-in by the Steam community. Valve ended up choosing four more awards: the “Boom Boom” award, the “Love/Hate Relationship” award, the “Sit Back and Relax” award, and the “Better With Friends” award.

The games that are up for multiple categories are The Witcher 3, Doom, Terraria, Grand Theft Auto V, and Stardew Valley, but Half-Life was not mentioned at all in any of the categories. This is in spite of the massive push Steam community members had made to nominate Half-Life 2: Episode 2 as the “Game That Deserves a Sequel” Award. And so ends the latest addition to the “Valve continues to ignore everything regarding a Half-Life sequel” saga.
