Early Rollercoaster Dreams Reviews Cause Fans to Question PSVR’s QA System
Sony’s PSVR quality control procedures are being questioned thanks to Rollercoaster Dreams.
Bimboosoft’s Rollercoaster Dreams launched on the PlayStation Store last week. Rollercoasters and VR should be an easy mark. The two concepts complement one another perfectly. On paper, letting players create their own theme park and go on the rides sounds too good to be true.
The reality has been exactly that. Within hours of the game going on sale, user reviews ranged from okay to terrible. The game is riddled with problems. Most players who’ve left any sort of positive feedback do so apologetically. PowerUpGaming combed through the scores of bad reviews, discerning that players are worried about the game’s allowance on the Playstation Store.
The majority of the game’s content is not playable in VR. Only the coasters themselves can be ridden in VR, the rest of the game is relegated to cinematic mode. The demo is another story, offering no VR experiences at all. Surely a bold move when trying to entice consumers into purchasing a game.
Sony is normally a paragon of quality control compared to other platforms. While places like Steam are flooded with questionable games, the PSN store is supposed to be held to a different, more stringent standard.
Rollercoaster Dreams calls into question the legitimacy of this standard. The game joins a growing list of PSVR titles that have been almost unplayable or widely criticised on launch, such as Surgeon Simulator ER and The Martian. More and more user reviews are asking whether or not Sony has relaxed its QA testing for PlayStation VR, given the system’s small selection of titles.
