Xbox One Games are Now Playable on the Oculus Rift
Microsoft has announced that the Oculus Rift can now stream Xbox One games, including all games that are backwards compatible from the Xbox 360! Move over battle of the consoles, the next biggest competition is here. Now that this may give the PSVR some competition, let the battle of the VR systems begin!
For everyone wondering about the crossover between Xbox One and the Oculus Rift, the streaming is done through the Xbox One Streaming App for free. This app connects to the Xbox One via your home network. Once connected, the console’s video output is streamed to the Rift headset and projected onto a screen of your choice. This app lets players choose from three different environments to play their games which are “Citadel,” “Retreat” and “Dome.”
While you won’t be able to experience actual virtual reality using the app, this feature puts your Xbox One screen on a TV in the virtual reality environment where you can look around. The game itself is not in VR.
Microsoft offered this description, “With the Xbox One Streaming App, you can play your Xbox One games directly on your Oculus Rift. Connect to your console via the app and watch your games come to life on a huge virtual screen in three immersive virtual theaters. Now you can expand your library of VR games with your favorite Xbox One titles, including Xbox 360 games that are playable on Xbox One.”
