Dragon Quest XI Gets Epic New Trailer from Square Enix

New Dragon Quest XI Trailer Exposes Gameplay and Assets from Upcoming PS4/3DS Games

At a panel during Jump Festa, the Dragon Quest XI crew enlightened us on what to expect from the eleventh installment in the upcoming Square Enix RPG series. We get to see our nameless protagonist and learn a bit more about him and his village, meet his friends, see his world, and of course, get to see the difference between what the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS versions will look like.

Meet our hero, a 16 year old adventurer, and his buddy Kamyu, a thief he met during his travels. While we’re finally getting up-close and personal with our main protagonist, who is a young boy who recently left the village of Ishi, we’re also introduced to Kamyu, a thief he met on his journey who is a bit rude, but very loyal and has a big heart with unending support for our head hero. With his ever-so-thiefly knowledge of the world, he helps our hero through his journey. We also get to see the world we’ll be playing in, which is the continent of Rotozestasia, complete with World Tree smack dab in the middle. Apparently, horse riding is exclusive to the PS4 version, and the two versions of the game will feature some differences in gameplay besides the visuals.

Oh, and you can also ride horses! Unfortunately for Nintendo players though, that’s a PlayStation 4 exclusive feature. Actually, there a few differences in gameplay between the two games besides the graphics, but we haven’t really seen much of that yet to really know how different the games are from each other.

Dragon Quest XI releases in Japan in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. No new information about the Nintendo Switch version or a western release were mentioned in the panel.
