Dumbledore Has Been Announced For Fantastic Beasts 2

Dumbledore Announced For Fantastic Beasts Sequel

With the release of Fantastic Beasts just over a week away, a huge announcement about the sequel has been made. Dumbledore will be in Fantastic Beasts 2! It is said that it will be a younger version of the powerful character as the Fantastic Beasts series is set in a different time within the wizarding world. As one of the most beloved characters in the Harry Potter series, this suggests great things from the sequel set to release on November 16, 2018.

Director David Yates said, “In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt.”

From this announcement we can now expect not only a younger version of the most powerful wizard around, but also continue to follow Newt Scamander through these films. Whether he will be at the center of all five scheduled films is still yet to be seen, as is Dumbledore’s role in all the sequels.

After having a character so key to the world as Dumbledore, it is hard to imagine not having him in the films. Many of the important events of Rowling’s fictional world happened with the future headmaster at the forefront. Whether this series of movies will lead up to the wizarding war mentioned by J.K. Rowling that takes place in 1945 is still a mystery, but this certainly sets up the opportunity.

But who will be cast to play this younger version of the great wizard?

Yates, Rowling, and Co. are looking for an actor, likely British, between the ages of 45 to 50. Rufus Sewell (Dark City, Hercules) seems like a prime choice, as does Iain Glen (Game of Thrones). But the front-runner is likely Richard Armitage (The Hobbittrilogy), who seems to fit the bill from a character perspective, and has already been a centerpiece in a successful fantasy franchise. I guess we’ll all find out together, and either way, they are all fantastic choices.
