No Fallout 4 or Skyrim Mods for PS4; Bethesda Blames Sony
When Bethesda announced way back at E3 2015 that Fallout 4 was going to come with console mod support the console gaming community collectively went bananas. The inferior peasants were finally going to get a taste of that PC master race glory. Now, all kidding aside that was seen as a big step forward. Fast forward to this year and the same was said to be happening with the upcoming Skyrim Special Edition. Well, it’s no secret that while the Xbox One mod support for Fallout 4 came months ago and that the PS4 support has been plagued with problems preventing its actual launch. Now it looks like it’s not coming at all, and it won’t come for Skyrim either, and Bethesda is placing the blame squarely on Sony’s shoulders.
In a statement made earlier today on their website, Bethesda stated that Sony won’t allow them to enable the user mods on PS4 in “the way they should work.”
Here’s the full statement from Bethesda:
After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.
Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.
We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.
This definitely has to be disappointing for consumers who bought Fallout 4 on their PS4 with the full intention of being able to use mods. Bethesda is known to do great work as well so we can’t imagine this sits well with them either. It will be interesting to follow this story as Bethesda will no doubt attempt to rectify this situation with Sony.
