Mario Maker Is Going Mobile With Super Mario Maker 3DS
One of the more surprising announcements from today’s Nintendo Direct was the confirmation by Nintendo of a 3DS version of the popular Wii U title Super Mario Maker. It does have a few bizarre exclusions though that have us scratching our heads.
Mario Maker 3DS comes out on December 1st, 2016 in Japan, with it following just a day later in North America and Europe. The title will feature 100 original courses from Nintendo themselves, complete with “Medal Objectives”. Players wil have various goals to meet, such as defeating every enemy, collecting every coin, or clearing levels in certain times, allowing for some added challenge. Super Mario Maker 3DS will also allow players to take part in the 100-course challenge from the Wii U verson, along with playing most of the titles from the Wii U title, minus a few incompatible ones.
The part that has us scratching our heads though, is that you won’t be able to search for levels via Course ID, and you won’t even be able to upload levels and share them online. The only way to share levels in this case is via Local Wireless or StreetPass, leaving many who were anticipating such a release a little bit flabbergasted, to say the least. Despite that, the ability to share and create content can’t go unnoticed, but it hurts to see such a big part of Mario Maker’s appeal lost on the release of the 3DS version.
Super Mario Maker 3DS is slated for the above release date, and despite the limitations with online, players will have almost every tool at their disposal, minus the Amiibo-related Mystery Mushrooms that allowed you to play as a whole host of Nintendo Characters.
As always, for all the latest details on Super Mario Maker 3DS, be sure to keep it locked on COGconnected!
