Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive, Gamers Worldwide Say Fuck Konami
It looks like Konami is going to try and break the record for most dislikes of a reveal trailer and take the title away from Activisionโs Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare reveal. Konami has officially unveiled their first post-Kojima Metal Gear game, Metal Gear Survive and fans seem to be giving it a universal, โWhat the hell?โ. Set directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Survive sees the members of Militaires Sans Frontiรจres not killed in that gameโs finale transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where theyโre forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies and, it seems, at least one Metal Gear itself. IGN broke the trailer earlier today.
Konami is vaunting Metal Gear Survive as a โfresh take on the seriesโ famed stealth elementsโ, but so far fan reaction is less than appreciative. From the comments in the video to Twitter and Facebook, there seems to be a universal middle finger being thrown at Konami. Many comments say the game actually looks good but the desperate tie into Metal Gear seems like a vain attempt to cash in on the guy they lost in Hideo Kojima. We do see Big Boss in the opening moments of the trailer but when it comes to the core game itself we donโt know if he actually shows up or not. At this point, there isnโt a ton of solid information out there apart from this being a four player co-op game that will see new weaponry used to fight off zombie-like enemies.
You knew Konami wasnโt going to let the Metal Gear franchise die with the departure of Hideo Kojima but perhaps they should have? To be fair, itโs too early to judge anything but the fan backlash seems to be strong so far. All we can say is calm down folks, at least itโs not Plinko!
