Another One In The Bag For Sega
Today we learned Endless Legend developer, Amplitude Studios, has now been officially acquired by Sonic The Hedgehog publisher, SEGA. According to a July 5th press release:
โSEGA Games Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President, Representative Director, and Chief Executive Officer: Haruki Satomi, โSEGA Gamesโ ), a subsidiary of SEGA Holdings Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President, Representative Director, and Chief Operating Officer: Hideki Okamura) acquired all shares of Amplitude Studios SAS (Headquarters: Paris, France, โAmplitude Studiosโ) on July 1, 2016 in order to further strengthen its PC game portfolio and development capabilities in the U.S. and European regions.โ
Amplitude, has a pretty good track record with the development of three titles in the Endless franchise: Endless Space, Endless Legend and Dungeon of the Endless. They commented with the following:
โTo have the opportunity to add a studio with the growing reputation of Amplitudeโs, to the SEGA family, is an exciting one and reinforces SEGA Europeโs position as a market leader in publishing high quality PC gamesโ said Jurgen Post, President/COO for SEGA Europe Ltd. โCulturally, Amplitude are a fantastic fit for the business as they not only produce great games, but also have a proven track record in listening to their fans and directly involving them in the ongoing development of their games through their GAMES2GETHER system.โ
Both sides look to gain with this development, the french based studio hoping to โ focus on making gamesโ instead of dealing with โthe pressure on sales and marketingโ, while SEGA looks to enlarge its roster of studios, which includes such prolific developers as Total War creators, Creative Assembly, Football Manager producer, Sports Interactive and Company of Heroes developer, Relic Entertainment.
