What’s Stranger Than Richard Garriott Selling His Blood?
You just can’t make this shit up. Richard Garriott, creator of seminal RPG series Ultima, is sparing no personal expense in promoting his new project Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues. After conquering space, where else does a person go but into the realm of the weird? Yes, Richard Garriott selling his blood is a thing that’s happening in the real world.
After having the blood drawn on a livestream (along with executive producer Starr Long’s) artist Steve Burdniak created 6 art pieces containing the blood. The pieces are now on sale on eBay for the bargain basement price of $5000. The 4.75″ x 9″ “Lord British Blood Reliquary is a beautiful and unique piece of art made of bakelite, copper, nails, glass, and mirrored glass that can be hung on your wall.”
By purchasing a reliquary, you’ll also get access to the first episode of the game, some digital items, and an invitation to visit the Austin, Texas offices of Portalarium.
So who exactly is the target market for Richard Garriott’s blood? The art pieces are admittedly pretty cool looking, but I’d personally be a little creeped out having blood hanging on my wall. What do you think? Tell us in the comments.
Shroud of the Avatar was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and the team continues to accept donations on their website. Stay tuned to COG for updates on Richard Garriott’s personal and professional exploits, and all the latest as we receive it.
