One Man On A Pokemon GO Mission To Catch Em’ All
The Pokemon craze has some folks going to extreme measures. A man from New Zealand left his job to pursue his dream to catch all 151 Pokemon. The man is named Tom Currie and worked as a barista at a seaside restaurant in Auckland until he decided to leave work in order to take a two-month expedition across New Zealand.
The 24-year-old booked 20 bus trips and has already visited six towns, so far he’s caught 90 out of the 151 available. Currie received world wide attention following his decision and spoke about his reasoning to The Guardian.
“I wanted to have an adventure,” Currie said. “I have been working for six years and I was desperate for a break. And Pokémon gave me the chance to live that dream.”
In order to afford the trip, Currie had to be frugal and often slept on friends couches or in crowded backpacking dorms to minimize the costs. Since creating such a buzz, he’s already been approached by transport companies offering him trips to remote locations in order to catch rare Pokemon.
Tom Currie plans to return to work after his Pokemon adventure ends but plans to continue playing the game he loves.
So far, Pokemon Go has become a cult success becoming the highest selling mobile game in US history, topping Candy Crush, Draw Something, and Clash Royale. It’s so popular that even though Nintendo wasn’t directly involved with creating it, their stocks rose over 70%.
