Vocal Warrior: Voice-Controlled Fighting Game Begins Kickstarter

Kickstarter Launched for World’s First Voice-Controlled Mobile Fighting Game: Vocal Warrior

Centaurs Technologies launched its Kickstarter project Vocal Warrior, a fighting game on mobile that will be controlled by the player’s voice. Some rewards include featuring the backers as actual in-game characters based on their request.

In 2012, inspired by Apple’s voice-activated technology Siri, Yi Wang, one of the founders of Centaurs Technologies came up with the idea to apply the interactive voice system to the fighting game.

“I think the voice command can help the players to control the character better than touching the screen,” said Wang.

The studio is currently testing its beta version and has been featured on the App Store for over 100 times. The optimized voice recognition system enables the game to distinguish the background noises from the player’s voice. The system can improve itself with over time: the more players play the Vocal Warriors, the better the game recognizes their voice.

“To make the voice recognition system perfect, we have updated the system for over a hundred times,” said Xi Wang, the voice engine developer of Vocal Warrior. “I have played our game in a bus station, shopping mall, restaurant, and gym, and it still works very well under such noisy environment,”

In this game, players play as Macro, the descendent of Marco Polo. Macro trains with a Kung Fu master in China. Trouble finds him when his master is attacked by a masked man. Macro tries to save his master but is knocked into a well, which sends Macro back through time. Now Macro is on his way to strengthen his power and avenge his master’s death.

The gameplay includes options such as casting spells, learning new magic skills and acquiring new weapons, all with voice commands.

Yi Wang said the next step for the studio was to develop a 3D version of the game.

“The ultimate goal of our game is to enable our players to immerse themselves in the gaming experience with the application of VR technology,” said Yi Wang.
