E3 2016: State of Decay 2 Announced and It’s 4-Player Coop

State of Decay 2 Isn’t Going To Be MMO Anymore

Undead Labs unveiled State of Decay 2 at E3 and it’s going to be 4-player co-op, expect it to release sometime in 2017. The sequel will take place in Trumball Valley, the location of the first, and focuses on surviving in a group.

Undead Labs CEO Jeff Strain spoke in an interview about their original plans to make it MMO.

“When development first began on the sequel, however, the game apparently did resemble its “Class4”-codename roots; Undead Labs did start down the MMO road. “It was a server-hosted, online world,” said Strain, “with the business models that go along with that: subscriptions [or] free-to-play.”

He then went into detail about the co-op features “This is not a session-based experience. It’s drop-in/drop-out. They key thing that I want everybody to know is, it doesn’t require you to be online. We’ve designed it very much with the intention of it being the easiest, most convenient type of multiplayer you can imagine.”

State of Decay 2 will be about building, recruiting and scouting to survive. Permadeath is real and if a character dies, they are gone forever. No official release date is set, except it will be in 2017, check out our other E3 posts for all the latest news.
