Ubisoft is Taking The Division to Theaters and Jake Gyllenhaal is the Man For the Job
It looks like Tom Clancy’s The Division is getting the big screen treatment and actor Jake Gyllenhaal is slated to be the star. Following record-breaking sales from Ubisoft’s quickest selling game, the decision was made to turn The Division into a movie, Gyllenhaal also signed on to produce the film.
In just five days, The Division raked in over $330 million in sales, which was record breaking for Ubisoft. It even has surpassed Destiny which was a mega hit back in 2014.
“The Division taking the top spot in the industry for first week sales of a new franchise is a tremendous achievement,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement. “The Division is the latest example yet of our unique ability to deliver immersive gaming playgrounds that keeps players engaged and that they eagerly share with their friends and community.”
The Division is set in a dystopian New York following a terrorist attack that wiped out most of the population, The Division is a response team sent in to rebuild society and eliminate the growing threat of terrorism and unrest within.
This isn’t Jake Gyllenhaal’s first crack at a video game adaptation to the big screen, back in 2010, he starred in the extremely disappointing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time which was a colossal failure that was shred apart by critics. The Division will hopefully garner more positive results following Duncan Jones’s flop adaptation of Warcraft which saw a measly 24% on Rotten Tomatoes. Later this year, Michael Fassbender will also star in the Assassin’s Creed movie.
Gyllenhaal can next be seen starring opposite Amy Adams in Tom Ford’s  Nocturnal Animals scheduled to open Nov. 18, 2016. What are your thoughts on the movie? Is Jake Gyllenhaal the right man for the job? Let us know in the comments.
